gfxboot-branding-openSUSE - Bring the penguins back

Feature state

openSUSE Distribution
Rejected Information

After reading the thread on the opensuse help forums, I thought it would be a nice idea to propose bringing the penguins back. What I mean by this is that sometimes, in grub on special dates the boot loader graphics will change at a random boot to one that features a bunch of penguins wearing some Christmas hats and doing general penguin things.

However, in grub2 this does not happen and it's always using the same (boring) graphic when it boots up. I know it might seem silly and worthless but I just thought it would be a nice thing to propose just for the sake of fun.

The thread that started this: https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/install-boot-login/492868-skating-penguins-december-1-install-goodie-3.html

If you still dont know what I am talking about please see the picture here: http://bugzillafiles.novell.org/attachment.cgi?id=571861

The bugzilla feature request: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=855548

User benefit:

I think its just a nice easter egg for the distro to have, I know that it serves no practical purpose but I do think it is important for distros to have fun little things like this that (hopefully) don't take too much work to maintain.

When the user boots up their system the boot loader, on a random boot interval, grub2 will display the graphic linked in the description instead of the default one that comes with openSUSE. It should be random during the month of December and after the 25th it should stop showing (or whatever it did in grub)

1. Power on system
2. Wait for grub2 to display its boot options
3. Display the penguin graphic instead of the default graphic

I support this request. And we need it quick :-)

I agree. Best before January :D

I support it too. And I'd like to see a similar feature for the summer, with penguins at the beach, dressed in bikinis.

I especially like the random aspect: God is chance. Random selection -- as a supplement or replacement for the election circus -- would solve our political problems. So let's have more randomness please!

+1, we need that icy busy nonsense back, definitely!

Be sure to add yourself under the "People" category and add yourself to the bugzilla CC list

There might me some people who might say that they want this feature on their work system. So, in that case the YaST-Bootloader should give an option whether they want the animations at grub2 or not. And default option should be set to Animation Enabled.

AH there is a typo. I should have written
"they don't want this feature on their work system. "
