Split out kernel documentation from kernel-source

Feature state

Rejected Information

Description

Just was installing kernel-source package to get the fully documentation to the linux kernel in the the Documentation sub directory. This was also installing some kernel development packages. Would it not be better to package this information in the kernel-doc package or even better in an extra package.

Disk is cheap these days.

Further, the most authoritative documentation for the kernel is the source. And splitting packages up adds complexity, plus risks losing files. I don't see a clear benefit here.

Agreed. kernel-docs contains the docbook generated man pages and pdf files which rarely anyone reads. Most users expect the kernel documentation alongside with the source.
