add updategrub to the rescue system

Feature state

openSUSE Distribution
Unconfirmed

Description

the forum user please_try_again published a very clever script available in his home OBS directory and called "updategrub". This script is extremely usefull for debugging boot problems, but nearly impossible to install from the rescue system, so it should be available right there.

User benefit:

fixing boot problems is one one the most difficult thing. One have often only the rescue system at hand, so very few tools, console only and a non running system.

Usecase

thgis script is usefull to fix most grub problems. It can find all the bootable sectors of a drive and modify accordingly the grub menu (or simply display the necessary data).

I had to reinstall Windoze after it crashed, and took some of the GRUB settings with it. Having this script included would have saved me hours of time.

In the past I used this set of commands to restore a overwritten boot

- Booted to prompt fron install DVD

-grub

- root (hd0,3)

- filesystem is type reiserfs, partition type 0x83

- setup (hd0)

- Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes

- Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes

- Running "embed /boot/grub/reiserfs_stage1_5 (hd0)" ...23 sectors are enabled

- Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0)1+23 p (hd0,3)/boot/grub/stage2 /boot/grub/menu.1st"... suceeded Done.

- quit # reboot

System booted ok.
