Alien on Opensuse DVD

Feature state

Rejected Information

The Alien package converter would be a useful application to include on the Opensuse DVD, for easy installing on offline systems and including among other important tools that come with the distro (if licences allow distribution with Opensuse).

User benefit:

Some Linux programs may not come with a .rpm installer. I believe portability and easy installation of software is important in any OS.

A doubt anyone wants to deal with the support questions which can arise by promoting such created rpm packages.

Better is to allow install Ubuntu/Debian based distribution iside OpenSUSE :-P . Some sort of new package, directory /debsystem and /debsyste/sbin, /debsystem/bin, etc. Default search PATH should been changed after install this package onto /devsystem/bin, etc.

All application in /debsystem should been runned with chroot or someting.

Ths would been better idea and we can put apt inside /debsystem . The one question is: what about share library with OpenSUSE and /debsysem? It could been probably hard.

I do not think openSUSE should spend more time on this whacky thought. For everything else, there is (approximately)

zypper -R /debsystem install foo.deb
