The inclusion of X.org 7.5 and kernel 2.6.31 will keep 11.2 fresh and relevant throughout its nine month life, and prevent the perception of staleness among suse enthusiasts in 2010.

User benefit:

The inclusion for X.org 7.5 will keep 11.2 fresh and relevant throughout its life time and prevent the perception of staleness among SUSE enthusiasts in 2010.

I would very much like to see opensuse 11.2 ship with X.org 7.5/xserver 1.7.

with opensuse's longer release cycle it seems daft to lumber 11.2 with a year 2008 X.org release in a distribution whose life-cycle mainly covers the year 2010. especially for the sake of a few weeks.

In case you haven't heard they have again delayed the release and are now hoping to get it out in Sept.

thanks - that kills the feature

Still I would love to have X.org 7.5 available as update in 11.2 asap. I hate seeing openSUSE lacking behind Ubuntu.

icons/user_comment.png M. H. wrote: (4 years ago)

We will not change the version number of X with an online update for a released product if there is not a
very good reason for that.

For those that want to test the bleeding edge there is always X11:XOrg.

Actually Ubuntu isn't including them as well in their next release.

When will we see xserver 1.7 in X11:XOrg?

icons/user_comment.png S. D. wrote: (4 years ago)

After openSUSE 11.2 has been released we can work on updating X11:XOrg to X.Org 7.5. Possibly still this year. It's a lot of work. Replacing douzens of tarballs, adjusting patches, etc.

icons/user_comment.png S. D. wrote: (4 years ago)

This is basically done, but not reflected yet in the package version number.

It's good to see it coming, I look forward to 11.3!

Please read my comment #9. Thanks.

Please consider this done now - with openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 5.

icons/user_comment.png J. O. wrote: (4 years ago)

I assume it is not fully implemented:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/util/modular/tree/module-list.txt does not list:

xorg-x11-proto-devel:

evieext, fontcacheproto, printproto, trapproto, vncproto, xcliplistproto, xf86miscproto, xf86rushproto, xproxymanagementproto

That caused for me:

According to phoronix , xserver 1.8 is out now. Must we do a new "fate" ;) ?

icons/user_comment.png S. D. wrote: (4 years ago)

xorg-server 1.8.0 is on 11.3 Milestone 3.
