yast2 disk: easy way to mount all ntfs partitions rw

Feature state

Taken from Bugzilla:

Please provide a check box that says something like this:

"Detect and mount all NTFS partitions Read-Write for all users"

I do over 100 installations of openSUSE every month, all on PC that have windows installed, and manually changing it in /etc/fstab is bit tedious.

Reproducible: Always

Stefan, please make a feature request if you want this.

Evaluation copied from my storage guys:

The current default is that only root has read-write access to all windows
files. To change this, the user has to modify the fstab options of the Windows
NTFS partition to allow read-write access for any user.

Three things could be considered to be changed:

  • Change the default NTFS options in fstab, so that everyone has read-write
access to Windows partition (this is IMHO not advisable, most people are
probably fine with only having readonly access as ordinary users and need
to be root to modify Windows files).
  • Add a button to "Settings" dialog of Expert Partitioner during installation
so that the user can tell yast2 to mount all Windows partitions with
read-write for ordinary users allowed. Question is if someone considers
    looking into this dialog.
  • Add a button "Read-Write access to ordinary users" to fstab options dialog
of NTFS filesystem. This would help people who do not know about the meaning
of "fmask" and "dmask" mount options to allow read-write access for everyone
    easier than currently.

Stano, Matthias, Michal, please decide one.

From my POV, only the 3rd option makes sense.

I would choose the first option. I do not see the need to not enable writing to everyone.

Give the power to the people. The openSUSE target group is not aunt tilly. openSUSE users know what they are doing. But it is so annoying to change that manually. I clear preference is option one.

BTW this feature is irrelevant from now on. YaST does not add entries anymore and this is handled at the desktop level
