Startup in X even when the xorg.conf fails

Description

As there are more and more new users within openSuSE with less knowledge. I was thinking it's an option to boot in Vesa when the original xorg.conf fails. Than the user is still able to fix the problem via a GUI i.e. YaST and SAX.

Failsafe boot option should provide that, or you have some other idea, like to attempt to start Xorg again with xorg.install file if first start ends with error.

Fail boot does that indeed. I was thinking of an automatic fall back on X when xorg.conf fails, with a kdm i.e. *dm screen that shows the the xorg configuration failed, maybe including help how to to go about to fix it.

I think the Fail Boot option is ideal but you need to know about this option to use it. I was thinking it might be extra helpful.

this needs to be done in both gdm and kdm as they start the X server. So I would prefer a clone, but gdm already has something like that - at least it catches failing X server starts. I'm not sure if there are kdm developments for that in 4.3

I assume you mean something like this:

Unless your using an extremely old monitor, which could be damaged by invalid settings, I don't see why this wouldn't be a good idea. And since SAX has been removed, all the more reason to do this.

Sax2 can be runned in safe mode. The matter is Sax2 isn't maintained.

Ubuntu had similar feature, but dropped it many years ago, since X server redesign. We also dropped Sax2 in this reason.

i dont matter what other Distris do, i like openSUSE an the wiches of the Community should become more "Ears" - we are the Users.
The First Thing i do (bevore 11.3), when my X fails is, to start with
sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
or even
sax2 -r -m 0=fbdev
and so my X starts with minimal, but grafical Screen.
This feature is enough Terminal input for Beginners.
The better Way ist ti build in that this comes automatic when X fails.
